The Windsor Collegium
The University Collegium was founded in the early 1970's by Edward Kovarik, a professor at the University of Windsor, for the purpose of studying and performing music of the middle ages and renaissance. Since that time the group has expanded repertoire to include baroque and early classical music as well. At present the Collegium presents two or three concerts per year at various locations in Windsor and Essex county.
Through the years it has been associated with other groups of like mind, including the Early Music Ensemble of Windsor, Recorders Court of Detroit, the St. Caecilia Society and the Society for Creative Anachronism. At present the Collegium has a membership of sixteen, including students interested in ancient music. Members may either sing or play old instruments (many do both); the instruments used are renaissance viols and recorders, as well as other string and wind instruments such as rebec, vielle, krummhorn, kurtel, shawm, and hurdy gurdy. All interested in the Windsor Collegium should contact Dr. Kovarik at (519) 253-4232 Ex. 2790 or by email at kovarik@server.uwindsor.ca |
