CONTRACT SERVICES
EXTENSIVE EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE With extensive experience in environmental research, our skilled interdisciplinary researchers provide a wide range of cost-effective, high quality assessment and diagnostic services for communities, industry, academia, environmental consultants and governments. GLI researchers also provide the expertise and training that empowers communities by assisting them in formulating and managing their own development and monitoring plans.
The expertise of GLI researchers has been applied to projects ranging from field studies and scientific analyses to social issues such as aboriginal culture, health care and international development.
RESEARCH TEAMS GLI researchers respond to unique challenges by forming teams with experts associated with the institute, including biologists, biochemists, engineers, economists and health care professionals.
Dr. Douglas Haffner leads the Organics Team, whose members are experts in water quality and sanitation, contaminants in foodwebs, bioassays, and toxicological modelling.
Drs. Jan Ciborowski, Hugh MacIsaac and Peter Sale lead the Aquatic Ecology Team, whose expertise includes population and community ecology and toxicity bioassays.
Dr. Brian Fryer leads the Metals Team, where members are expert in contaminants and trace analyses and mobility.
CAEAL ACCREDITATION GLI researchers operate the only analytical laboratories at a Canadian university accredited at international performance standards by the Canadian Association of Environmental Analytical Laboratories. Under this arrangement all tests and procedures conducted in the laboratory are required to meet rigorous international standards and provide accurate and objective results. This accomplishment is particularly impressive as the modestly-staffed laboratories are assessed against the same criteria as their more heavily-supported government and private sector counterparts. The laboratories are unique in supporting leading-edge environmental research, an activity that in other sectors is not required to meet prescribed standards. [Contact: haffner@uwindsor.ca]
FACILITIES GLI facilities include computational hardware and software, GIS capability, reference materials and access to online databases. Research vessels are available for the collection of water, sediment, biological and other specialized samples.
