The Homer F. Plante Creative Writing Awards 2007

The Department of English Language, Literature, and Creative Writing is once again sponsoring the annual Homer F. Plante Creative Writing Awards Competition

During Professor Plante's twenty-three years with the University of Windsor, his enthusiasm and innovative teaching, based upon the belief that education should make people better than they would otherwise be, served as an inspiration to his colleagues and students.

He was especially interested in developing the imaginative potential of young writers and was among the first in Canada to see the value of teaching Creative Writing at the University level.

He also foresaw the importance of making Canadian students aware of their own literary heritage and was a pioneer in including Canadian authors in his courses. It is to perpetuate Homer Plante's ideals and to foster continuing emphasis upon the importance of creativity and original thinking that these awards are offered to senior high school students in his name.
